El Instante was established in Madrid, in 2017, with the aim of carrying out a reflection on the present time in our lives. It was conceived as a transversal and multidisciplinary project encouraging collaborations with other foundations and institutions. El Instante has two modalities: one as an institution that promotes projects and actions of a very different social, scientific and cultural nature, but also as a creative collective, which manifests itself through actions and artworks. El Instante, both the Foundation and the artist, brings together a group of people from different fields and specialties of science, culture and, naturally, art with an idea of an action collective. Since its inception, it has presented its own projects like in the exhibitions (Christian Boltanski, Nam June Paik or Miguel Ángel Campano) and other shows around critical themes such as survival, the folding, or loss.
Music at El Instante carries out concerts, coded music and a commissioning program for new music around specific themes such as time, food and elegy. Juan Manuel Artero, Jorge Fernández Guerra and Tomás Marco are among some of the participating composers. Our latest project is the premiere this year of a Zarzuela entitled "Se Vende (For Sale)", featuring the composers David del Puerto, Jesús Rueda and Javier Arias; and a script by J. M. Fernandez Shaw. The play revisits the genre of zarzuela with the aim of positioning it in the XXI century, both in the use of popular and cult music as in the reflection about the Spanish reality of recent years colonized by of corruptiom, nationalism, Covid and social networks.
El Instante as an artist has conceived, among other projects, installations such as “Mudar de Piel” (Skin shedding); the actions "Time Auction" or "Hoshikuzu Yatai", the latter in Japan and "Persiles and Sigismunda" in the Prado Museum as well as art video works.
El Instante Editions produces artist books such as the photo book "Las Patrañas de Miguel Ángel Campano" by Javier Campano, its own series such as "Aló Presidente" or in collaboration with the National Calcography, the "Dream Library", from images created by not artists.
In addition, El Instante organizes a Residency Program that welcomes artists and non-artists in their desire to build bridges between people and knowledge, offering a suitable space for work and reflection.
